Before you hit the sun Memorial Day!

We’re all happy that summer is on it’s way as Memorial Day is the unofficial summer kick off for the U.S. Making ours a joyfully long one. We’re grateful! Another thing to be grateful for is the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

Before we all go crazy with our flip flops and shorter than short shorts. A few unofficial sun rules that I live by if you’re going to spend time outdoors.

First, always apply sunscreen even if not sun tanning. I have a slight allergy to them so I try to stay under SPF 25. Don’t forget you lips. My go to will be L’oréal Paris Color Riche Balm.

Then No alcohol until 4pm. Dehydrating your skin via alcohol is a killer for your skin and your energy. The sun is drying enough so why throw fuel to the fire. Speaking of fire, your skill will feel the burn. But if you must, go for a rosé, mimosas, bellinis (my personal favorite) or sangria. Vinos are know to have antioxidants and what do all of these cocktails have in common? Fruit juices! For each drink have a glass of water to compensate.

Which brings me to the final rule. Eat all of your vitamins. Fresh O.J, limeade, the fresh in season fruits like strawberries and avocados. For breakfast have your omelet with greens and herbs like spinach (known to have it’s own u.v filter). Think of it as a United Colors of Benetton advert. The more colorful the richer!

Be safe and most importantly have a wicked time.

P.S: I just love the Hed Kandi arts by Jason Brooks. I’ve been obsessed with them for many years now.

Bye, Bye!

Bright Idea: Bright Lips!

Bright

I get bored with my reflection in the mirror. We can at times get so comfortable with a certain look. Upper East Side blow out and pale pink polish, nude gloss. Classy but boring if this is your go to look every time. I came across the above photo in an old Glamour magazine and felt inspired. Not that I need additional stimuli since I sometime feel overwhelmed by beauty ideas. All you need is a shift like a teal polish or eyeliner. Just one detail! Bright idea: Punchy colorful lipstick not lip gloss but full on grown up lipstick. Easier than it looks but commitment is required.

Maintain the skin almost bare (B.B. cream and powder), champagne eyeshadow creates the perfect eye lid base, line with pencil or liquid liner and complete with lashings of mascara.

I always extend my foundation to my lips or put a bit of concealer around my lip line focusing on the outer corners. This trick helps the lipstick stay put and allows you to enhance or correct your natural lip line. Then, I line my lips with the matching color or with a nude (flesh tone) pencil. Apply lipstick in the center of the lip avoiding the edges of the mouth. Blot very lightly with tissue, repeat one more time and finish application with a lipstick brush contouring the lip line. For touch ups make sure you carry the lip pencil or a portable lip brush (to re contour your lips) and the lipstick.

Here a re some colors that you may want to put on tonight

  • Lorac Cream Lipstick in Baby Doll (light pink)
  • Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick #11 Love Test (Blueish Fushia)
  • Y.S.L Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Lipstick in #7 Lingerie Pink (Creamy Pink)
  • Y.S.L Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Lipstick in #17 Red Muse (Bright Orange Red)
  • Make Up Forever rouge Artist n#31 Purple (Light Fushia)
  • M.A.C Sheen Supreme in Gotta Dash (Light Orange Peach)

Now you’re ready for your air kisses!

Bisous, bisous xoxo

The Face of Spring Summer 2012 (Night)

Tags

, , , , , , , , , ,

Summer nights. Warm steamy hot nights. I love ‘em! They’re the most sensual next to a warm rainy week end. In bed preferably with another body.

The face I want for the spring and summer nights is definitely more ‘electric’ than the the daytime trends. More metallic than pastel.

Nars Spring Summer 2012 ad posted below is the embodiment of the look that (quite honestly) I never tire of, summer after summer.

This your how to:

  • BB creams are all the rage as you know. I love Dr. Brandt Flexitone BB Cream. Offers a better range of colors, smooths and blends to perfection and has SPF protection.
  • Dab a drop of of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in on the brow bone, the bridge of the nose and at the highest point of your cheekbones all the way to your temples.
  • For your eyes YSL Beauty Chromatic (how fitting) in #19 is a palette of wet or dry sexy, sultry brown, taupe, beigy pinks. I love it! Start by swiping the rosy pink all over lid, apply the taupy color from the outward corner of lid towards the inside (but not all the way). You want to create a graduated color effect. Also, line your lower lash with the taupe color instead of black or brown liner. You don’t want to weigh your eye down. This is Sultry Siren and not Disco Diva à la studio 54. Apply the dark brown color in the crease to create a subtle shadow. Finish with the Shimmery Pink color at the inner corner of the eye to add pop to your gaze. Voilà!
  • Put on lashings of L’oréal Voluminous for thick lashes.
  • Dab a bit of Nars in Super Orgasm on the apple of the cheeks after a very light swipe of Guerlain Terracota Bronzer. You can skip the bronzer if you desire. The peach and gold tones in Super Orgasm should give the illusion of a Hampton tan.
  • Gloss, Gloss, Gloss with Nars lip gloss in (what else) Orgasm. That’s what we’re going for here: an orgasmic look with or without the sex. I say leave the sex for later, you don’t want to ruin this look.
  • Beautify your manicure with L’oréal’s Colour Riche in VIP Status or Penthouse Pink.
  • Scent (Gardenia and jasmine) and moisturize (argan, hazelnut, grapeseed and almond oil) your whole body with Lierac Lait Sensoriel.

You’re now head to toe gorgeous and the world is your oyster. They have been warned.

Enjoy mes sexy ladies x

The Faces of Spring/ Summer 2012 (Day)

Image

What’s wrong with this picture? Absolutely nothing! It’s sheer gorgeousness: Clear, matte skin, rosebud colored lips and sultry eyes. Why wouldn’t you want to look like this all of the time? So fresh!

This is my day face for spring and summer 2012.

Beauty Kit:

  • Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Black (always).
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in the rose collection (Boy, Fétiche and Chance) Rose tones tend to flatter most skin tones and brightens the complexion.
  • Since we’re on the lips, my new fave lip product this year has been L’oréal Colour Riche Lip Balm in Tender Mauve ( I actually love all of the colors)
  • Lorac Croc eye shadow palette has all the basic beige/browns you need for everyday. But these offer shimmer and one basic matte brown to contour. I personally have been using it for several years.
  • For skin, it’s important to keep it clean without unnecessary shine. One of the best inexpensive foundation is Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse.
  • To complete, add a nice swiping of liquid blush for a sheer lit from within glow. Clarins Instant Flash Blush in Coral Fizz or Brown Fizz (more copper than brown)
  • For touch ups I always carry YSL Touche Éclat (a must)

You have all the essentials to pull off this beautiful face. Smoldering gaze sold separately!

Spring Forward: Foam free Cleanse for Beautiful Skin

Tags

, , , , , , , , , ,

It sounds completely counter intuitive but the best way to achieve supple even toned skin is by not using suds on you skin. No foam cleansing just doesn’t sound clean, so not American. It’s a concept I’ve struggled with for many years. Everything meant to clean includes some type of foam: Dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, shampoo! Noxzema cleansing cream was the only facial wash that I’ve ever used that did not lather. Decades later I found myself braking out, flaky skin and my skin tone was lack luster and uneven. Enough issues to make me slightly depressed. I was nostalgic about the days when my skin was so pretty that foundation was reserved for special occasions. Luckily, my beauty prayers are almost always answered. I was randomly shopping at a discount store and I was drawn to a cleansing oil by EI Solutions which is a super high tech (and amazing) skincare and cosmetics company. After three days of using this cleansing oil my skin started to find it’s groove. It was no longer tight and no black heads anywhere. Halfway through the first bottle ( I bought two and wish I’d gotten at least two more) I was getting compliments. Yes, I’ve used many cleansers foaming and non foaming that did not quite properly cleanse. And I am such an exfoliation junkie that I more than likely damaged my lipid barrier so there was no more room for additional damage. Products that I loved and worked amazingly well in the past were no longer cutting it which was an indication that my skin was out of balance. Since then, I’ve been on a strict no foam cleansing regime. For spring, it’s important to undo the damage done in the last three seasons to prepare for summer. You want properly hydrated, glowing dewy skin with an optimally functioning lipid barrier to protect you from bacteria, the sun and city grime.

The best so far are Vichy Pureté Thermale 3 in 1 One Step Cleanser(Vichy.com), Philosophy Purity Made Simple (Sephora.com), Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Make Up Remover, Tolériane Dermo-Cleanser (Drugstore.com) and love Bliss Clog Dissolving Cleansing Milk (Also available at Sephora).

Before we part, a few tips for cream cleansing: 1. Moisten finger tips and spread product all over face 2. Massage face with finger tips or with a facial brush. 3. Make sure to run a bit of product over eye lids and lashes right before rinsing. 4 Repeat!

I think you’re ready to make the switch! You should see better skin in a matter of days! I now can skip foundation and my skin depression is cured.

Bonne peau to all!!! xoxo

Spring Forward: Must do now for better beauty days (Intro)

This is it! Spring is upon us. As much as I love this season I can’t help but to feel anxious.

Questions like, “Did I gain weight”; “Oh my I need to go to the gym!!”; “Is that cellulite on the back of my thighs?”, “What am I going to wear?” I can’t be the only one to feel this way. You know that the early spring is preparation for better weather and beauty days to come. Storing winter clothing for the more trans-seasonal items. The same should be done with your skincare and make-up. So, I am making this a series of must do now for better skin days ahead blog post where I will be tackling all of our beauty and sometimes style conundrums.

Stay logged to find out how your cleanser may be the answer to your best skin ever.

À bientôt les cocos!

Beauty Dreams Come True: Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect Color+Care

I’m really in to new age stuff like astrology and metaphysics. I was glued to Oprah’s Life Class every evening for eight weeks. The concept of manifestation is as confusing as it is fascinating. There’s one (oddest) place in my life where I always saw my dreams manifest almost instantly: Beauty. Recently, I was thinking to myself of how much I love pink/nude shimmery nail polishes and why is it so difficult to find a good one. I loved Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails version. It was the perfect pearly silvery pink. Not too sheer which I love a creamy coverage. The same week, I walk into Bed Bath and Beyond and find the new Smooth & Perfect Color + Care by Sally Hansen. Every pear shimmer colors a girl could dream of: Coral, Lavender, Sandy Beige even a pastel green. I immediately grabbed Dune which is the sandy beige. It’s a perfect neutral with a bit of glam and of course I’m a sucker for lavender so I also bought Whisper. It’s the chicest lavender with a hint of champagne. Gorgeous! I could not stop looking at my manicure. What I love the most, you get full coverage. It is not a sheer manicure. It’s supposed to be this fancy oxygenating nail polish. I just love the smooth and easy application.

Polish! x

Nivea is a 100!!!

Nivea is not a brand I can say that I discovered. It’s more of a brand that is embedded in one’s consciousness. There was always a blue tin of cream in our bathroom cabinet. Very simple an minimal blue design with white inscriptions. So amazing and no no nonsense that it was owned by Guerlain. That’s right, the super luxe beauty house. Beauty shouldn’t be discriminating. I used to love the versions with avocado oil, almond oil and AHA. We’re talking over fifteen years ago. How could I forget my first shave, smooth legs was a necessity. Nothing would quite hold up to Nivea. from lip balms to skincare, I have rarely used a product that I was not satisfied with. Just amazing quality for the price out there. They were the first mass brand to introduce Q10 for the whole body. The Nivea market is under developed in the U.S market. Now, along with Nivea’s Q10 firming body lotion I also loooved the smooth sensation (until the formula w/hydra IQ) and all of their body washes. When in Europe or Canada I buy everything I can find, lip gloss, mascaras, nail polish you name it, I’m buying it. In the year 2011 Nivea celebrated her 100th birthday! She doesn’t look a day past 25. Raising my Nivea lip balm and a glass of champagne to 100 more beauty full years!!!

Happy 100th Birthday Nivea!!!

I am a beauty junkie but lip gloss is my absolute favorite.
If I have time for no make up at all, I know that with a great lip product I am literally covered.
Recently, I discovered Carmex Moisture Plus ultra hydrating lip balms. My world has never been the same since. These little slender silver tubes contain the sheerest lip colors with the richest moisture. There are five colors to choose from; clear, sheer pink, sheer peach, sheer berry and sheer plum.
All containing vitamin E, aloe and shea butters with a healthy dose of nourishing oils like coconut, avocado and safflower. As if it wasn’t enough greatness, the balms all have an SPF 15.
In put it on my lips everyday running around doing my errands and also with a full face of make up. It just pulls my look together in a subtle way. The applicator has a slant so it’s goof proof application for when your on the go.
At home and specially before bed I love to moisturize with Carmex Moisture Plus hydrating lip balm in clear. The clear balm leaves amazing moisture with a light sexy sheen.Perfect in case I get a surprise visitor.
My lips are addicted to the Carmex Moisture Plus in sheer pink. It leaves a longer lasting color than a gloss but lighter than a lipstick. It’s the perfect balance. Perfection is mine every time for only $3.49
