I discovered body scrubs somewhere in my mid teenage years. Always looking for perfection, I followed the advice of one of my favorite teen french magazines (Jeune et Jolie which translates to Young and Pretty) and bought a tube of “gommage corporel”. It had a smooth creamy texture and smelled fresh yet sweet. The paste went on evenly and left me so smoooth. I was hooked! I haven’t looked back since. I don’t remember what brand it was but I do know it was French. The French always seem to have the answer to all beauty ailments. I was living in the Caribbean at the time and most of our beauty products came from Europe.
Scrubs are now much easier to find. Can you imagine that about ten years ago, one would have to go to a spa to get a jar of body scrub?!? Now every body care line has one. Progress! Some like to discover planets, I like to make beauty discoveries. Nothing beats regular exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, promote a smoother and even tone and maintain a healthy glow. Wether it be real or fake
Most of my favorites are pretty affordable and do an amazing job. Usually this list would be long but I don’t want to overwhelm ya’ll. I often use:
- Soap and Glory’s Scrub of Your Life
- St-Ives’ In Shower Scrubs
- Victoria Secret’s Pink Go Natural body scrubs
- Clarins’ New Skin Smoothing body
H2O+ Sea Marine Body Polish
What these have in common is that they are all foaming body scrubs. I like to feel squeaky clean. Beats a luffa in my opinion. I like them once in a while. You know, when I get nostalgic about my grand mother’s torturous baths that left my toasted almond colored skin tomato red from all the scrubbing. No pain is involved here.
Pain is not always necessary to achieve beautiful results (ha mother!). Go ahead and enjoy yourself, touch yourself (I mean your skin).
